Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: Directs all credit & collections activities for the
Division in accordance with the established policies, practices and
procedures of the Parent Company resulting in maximum sales, sound
receivables and their prompt conversion to cash. ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:Analyzes requests for credit to determine information and
security needed; performs investigation personally or through
agency; extends or denies credit in accordance with established
Company policy and terms.Establishes credit lines for individual
accounts and makes all credit arrangements on a project to project
basis. Verifies and applies construction lien procedures for the
state in which project is being built.Reviews terms and conditions
of contracts and Labor Material Payment Bonds; consults with
supervisor concerning unusual terms; consults with supervisor on
complex problems and issues involving policy
decision.Systematically reviews and collects receivables on a
regular basis, ensuring accounts are in reasonably sound
condition.Checks balances monthly, taking steps to prevent past-due
accounts; takes action on delinquent accounts; prepares files of
difficult cases for V.P. Credit.Represents the company at
creditor's meetings and customer bankruptcy proceedings.Consults
with supervisor and appropriate management on complex collection
situations.Obtains supervisory approval for acceptance of notes,
compromise settlements, partial payments, time extensions, and the
writing off of uncollectible accounts.Arranges for forced
collections, the filing of suits or bankruptcy claims and provides
complete information to representatives.Supervises the processes
and procedures related to recorded contracts, use of collateral,
insurance claims, lien instruments, etc.Takes appropriate action on
collection irregularities (payment discrepancies, unearned
discounts), adjustments (shipment errors, etc.), and customer
complaints and inquiries.Handles collection correspondence.Carries
out established programs for controlling the credit
function.Prepares and submits periodic operating reports to
supervisor on the status of receivables.Maintains a positive work
atmosphere by communicating in an effective manner with customers,
co-workers, clients and supervisors. In addition, must maintain
effective relationships with financial institutions, credit sources
and the trade.Has full authority within approved policies,
procedures, standards, and defined limits on credit matters within
the designated area of responsibility. Deviations are subject to
approval from higher authority, but the Credit Manager's judgment
frequently influences decisions.Other responsibilities include:
interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning and
directing work. Appraising performance, addressing complaints and
resolving problems.Performs other job duties as assigned by
supervisor.REQUIREMENTS:Associates Degree (AA) in finance or
business administration and two - five years of experience and/or
training or the equivalent combination of education and
experience.Training in credit management and collectionComputer
skills to include: MS Excel and WordEffective oral and written
communication skillsMust be familiar with lien and bond
laws.Familiarity with construction contract forms and applications
