Seeking dependable, responsible team player with good work ethic
and communication skills for a full time Mechanic position for a
Eugene area refuse & recycling collection company. Position will be
responsible for lubrication service work on fleet vehicles as well
as a wide variety of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic repairs.
Some basic welding or fabrication experience would be helpful.
Pre-employment drug screen is required. Must have a clean driving
record and ability to obtain Class B CDL license. Must have own
tools. Position is 40 hours per week on day shift, Monday-Friday
with some Saturdays as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all necessary service work on vehicle chassis and body,
including but not limited to:
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections on assigned
vehicles as scheduled. Inspects tires, wheels, brake systems,
steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, cooling systems and other
important parts on vehicle chassis and body to ensure that they are
in proper operating condition. Replace or repair faulty parts &
equipment. Communicates to shop coordinator when a vehicle needs to
be placed out of service.
- Inspect vehicle tires daily and communicate any needed repairs
or replacements with Shop Coordinator.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical problems as needed.
Attach test instruments to equipment in order to diagnose
malfunctions. Test drives vehicles to diagnose malfunctions or to
ensure that they are working properly. Documents the nature and
extent of damage or malfunction and repairs made
- Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs
accessories such as heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers. Repair
and adjust seats, doors, and windows, and install and repair
- Weld, fabricate and repair parts and assemblies on truck
chassis, solid waste collection bodies and containers as
- Assist in diagnose and repair computerized control systems,
ignitions systems and backup camera systems and other vehicle
electronic components as needed.
- Raise vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to
mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.
- Respond to service calls to repair vehicles off-site, make
temporary repairs, pickup and deliver vehicles to vendors for
- Assist other mechanic in the performance of mechanical repairs
- Complies with proper shop work practices and safety
- Reviews driver's vehicle inspection reports describing vehicle
problems as needed.
- Perform regular shop housekeeping to ensure work areas are kept
Required Experience & Abilities:
Tools, equipment and procedures used in the overhaul, repair and
adjustment of diesel powered heavy equipment and solid waste
Procedures of preventive maintenance related to heavy

Methods, materials, equipment and tools used in routine welding and
Accurately determining mechanical repair needs and estimating the
cost and time of repairs.
Operating a forklift, overhead crane and drill press.
Operating and maintaining combustion engines and hydraulic
Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and computerized control
Work varied shifts depending upon assignment.
Conduct work in a timely, accurate, and organized manner are
Read and interpret instructions and diagrams pertaining to
manufacturer's manuals and repair of vehicles and equipment.
Perform equipment maintenance work including the troubleshooting of
equipment for both major and minor repairs work.
Use a variety of equipment maintenance tools and equipment.
Maintain a variety of shop and repair records.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Understand and follow work orders, repair manuals and other oral or
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those
contacted in the course of work.
Communicate with all levels of personnel, management, and other
outside contacts using good verbal and written skills.
Pass a drug screen test.
Meet the company driving standards and comply with fleet safety
Education or Equivalent Experience:
Typically requires a 3 or more years of related vehicle diagnosing
and repair experience; diesel engine repair experience required.
Formal training or education may substitute for some required
Valid Oregon driver's license required.
- Starting wage - $21.30 per hour. Current top wage - $23.90 per
hour. Medical and dental benefits after completion of probationary
