About the team The Design Systems Team is passionate about building the toolkit, the process, and the infrastructure that connects world-class experiences across Zillow products. We are a multi-functional team, responsible for upholding a high level of quality and expressing the Zillow brand. We create front-end systems that allow engineers, designers, and product teams to solve problems and build high-quality experiences, faster, and at scale. The Design Systems team sits within Zillow Experience Design (ZxD), a fast-paced, collaborative, and driven product design team. We're a tight-knit, fun-loving, and upbeat group. We are looking for someone who can help us empower our engineering and design teams by building components and patterns that expand the capabilities of our enterprise-level UI library. About the role Zillow is looking for an experienced front-end engineer who will focus on helping architect, develop, and advocate for our Design System across Zillow's suite of web products. The ideal candidate has experience building design systems and is hard-working. They are an excellent teammate who is comfortable working closely with partners across design, engineering, and product. In this role you will: Develop reusable, responsive components using React and styled-components Contribute to usage and API documentation for both designers and engineers Address and fix bugs in our design system Prototype early feature designs to support the design and research process Collaborate with, and mentor, designers, and engineers who are using our design system in their work Provide constructive feedback to designers, both ad hoc and in structured reviews Collaborate with product owners to improve the core user experience through our design system Help raise the quality bar of the system by making sure components are performant and accessible This role has been categorized as a Remote position. "Remote" employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role. In Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City the standard base pay range for this role is $144,000.00 - $230,000.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada and New York City and may not be applicable to other locations. Who you are You bring at least 4 years of proven experience in front-end web development. Experience developing design systems preferred You are capable of operating autonomously, as well as collaboratively. At Zillow, we value the 'Team Sport' mentality. Bachelor's or graduate degree in Computer Science, or related technical field experience Expertise in JavaScript fundamentals and experience crafting scalable, performant components using JS and JS frameworks; particularly React Expertise in CSS and building for multiple screen sizes (responsive design); experience in CSS-in-JS (styled-components) or preprocessors (Sass, Less, etc) a plus Up-to-date understanding of W3C standards (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) and cross-browser/multi-device support Experience using version control (Git), unit testing JavaScript (e.g. Jest, Enzyme, Mocha, Chai, etc.), and other modern front-end tools (ex: Webpack, Babel, Yarn, etc.) Ability to communicate well with both designers and engineers, and receive feedback openly Experience building for accessibility and assistive technologies Bonus : You have experience with Figma In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
