The Chief of Staff (COS) reports directly to the Medical Center Director, and will be located at the Roseburg VA Health Care System in Roseburg or Eugene, Oregon. PLEASE NOTE: This is an open continuous announcement. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Dentists in leadership positions must demonstrate outstanding professional ability in the practice of dentistry or a dental specialty, and healthcare administration, as well as the ability to guide the development and implementation of programs within their respective domain. These would include, but are not limited to dental practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality and performance improvement. Candidate selected for this position will: 1. Be a member of the VARHS Executive Leadership; participate in executive strategic planning, decision-making, policy determination and implementation, budget planning and resource allocation, operational plans; participate in defining and accomplishing the facilitys mission, vision, and goals; 2. Be fully responsible to the medical center director for programs of patient care and for the educational and research activities of the clinical services; be responsible for the management and operation of all clinical programs and services promoting the effective coordination and support of clinical programs; 3. Develop and present the budgetary requirements of the Clinical Services and assists in the formulation of the annual budget program; 4. Evaluate patient population needs, clinical workload and resources, and standards of clinical competence; monitor and evaluate clinical practices, peer reviews, and clinical performance while promoting the development of healthcare professionals through counseling, mentoring, and teaching; 5. Create and promote an environment of continuous quality improvement within the clinical services and in quality of care; 6. Maintain and promote high ethical and clinical standards ensuring medical staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations, facility policies, Joint Commission standards and those of other certifying and accrediting bodies; and serve as the professional liaison with the VISN 20 Network office, other VA and federal facilities, and community, affiliates, media, congressional, and other external stakeholders. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with section A, chapter 3, paragraph 3g, this part.) Education. Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence. English Language Proficiency. Dentists, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Licensure and Registration. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. The dentist must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Management Degree, and/or experience in managerial, professional or clinical positions in a health care setting is desired. Training or skills in risk management and/or continuous quality improvement. Lastly, outstanding skills working with teams to accomplish the goals of the organization along with the ability to manage a complex program.
