Two (2) years of post-secondary education, coursework, or equivalent in business, human relations, psychology, counseling, writing, and/or research skills. Required Experience: Two (2) years experience in program/project services, one (1) year experience related to disability accommodation. Familiarity with Accessible Technology and student accommodations. Mastery of course material/terminology of STEM disciplines. Bilingual/Multicultural Statement: Multicultural experience and bilingual proficiency in World languages is preferred. A demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance the concepts of social justice and culturally competent behaviors is expected. Equivalency Statement: Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered for meeting minimum qualifications. Position Purpose: This position provides administrative support to the Center for Accessible Resources Department. Essential Functions: This position may perform one or more of the following roles as determined by departmental and student accommodation need. Staff members must be able to perform the expectations and adapt to the varying needs of all roles assigned. In-Class Aid/Reader/Scribe In subject matter specific terminology, communicate exact information being presented. Ability to communicate precisely and effectively in multiple modes (orally, written, and non-verbally) Ability to read and/or scribe only the information that is presented without itional explanation or assistance being provided. Utilization of multiple devices, strategies or systems to capture information. Ability to perform manual or physical tasks in the exact manner directed. Ability to take notes (or record other presented information) manually or/and in combination with other devices. Skills with PC and Macintosh platforms. Experience with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe programs Ability to leverage technology for communication with student. Maintain adequate documentation of student interactions in daily logs and inform lead worker and/or the students Accommodation Specialist of happenings if necessary. Visual describer Ability to read and interpret tactile graphics and other visual aids. Ability to use specific software and hardware specific specialized in aiding students with vision loss. Note-taker Ability to type 60 words/minute with accuracy. Ability to take notes (or record other presented information) manually or/and in combination with other devices. Skills with PC and Macintosh platforms. Experience with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe programs Ability to leverage technology for communication with student. Prior completion of or ability to complete TypeWell training and all associated proficiencies. Proficiency in providing transcriptions in an educational environment. Testing Proctor Administer and proctor tests, exams and quizzes and ensure the ability to receive and obtain all required trainings and certifications required to administer exams. Ability to proctor multiple tests and in multiple locations with accuracy and without compromising security or the integrity of exams. Complete, process and follow up appropriately on incident reports. Gather information and compile data for analysis and reporting. Track tasks thoroughly through full completion, using problem solving skills as needed, to the satisfaction of the lead worker who assigned the tasks. Collection, organization, and maintenance of all testing materials. Specific Knowledge Mastery of course material/terminology of STEM disciplines is preferred General Responsibilities Experience with databases and accessible software and hardware. Provide support for Alternate Format, Test Accommodations, and the Accessible Technology Lab. Ability to utilize, troubleshoot and fix a range of devices (of varying technological independently and will limited on-site support. Capability to follow all departmental procedures and enforce guidelines. Accurate and timely documentation of interactions. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Setting boundaries and operating within the assigned role(s). Ability to conduct work in a variety of settings and timelines. Fieldtrips, labs and other learning environments may cause alterations to equipment or expectations used in the assignment(s). Interact consistently in a respectful, pleasant, courteous, tactful manner with students, faculty, staff and the public. Problem solve difficult interactions with students, employees and the public: de-escalate and boundary situations as needed. Use appropriate professional judgment about when to involve lead worker in problem solving. Work effectively and efficiently independently and as a collaborative member of a team Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, lead worker, co-specialists and other staff in the department. Receive feedback and direction in an open and professional manner, implementing as appropriate. Understand, articulate and department policies, procedures and philosophies to daily work. Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students. Other duties as assigned. Supervision Statement: Reports to and works under the Associate Dean of the Center for Accessible Resources, and also reports to the department lead worker. Work is performed independently according to College and department policies, State and federal rules or regulations and a knowledge of budgeting procedures, personnel practices, information analysis and report preparation. The supervisor is available to consult on problems and policy decisions. Work is reviewed for the quality of services provided to the department. Physical Demands/Working Environment: This position mostly works indoors and is exposed to usual office and classroom working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. Some outdoor work may be required depending on the content of the course (ex. Field trips, lab work outdoors). This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; drive as required by the position; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. These positions may work with individuals who may be distraught, unpleasant, angry, or discourteous. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of: State and Federal rules and regulations relating to equal access and needs of the disabled and skill in interpreting anding the laws in terms of policies and procedures; correct English grammar; and skill in effective coordination of project planning, development, administration and evaluation. Skill in: The operation of a computer; the use of active listening, assertiveness, problem solving and public relations techniques; American Sign Language; and transliteration. Ability to: Relate to a diverse population; work independently and as a member of a team; use independent judgment, make critical decisions and exercise leadership, utilizing supervisory principals and practices; prioritize tasks, work under stress and pressure to meet critical deadlines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, students and the general public; interact with students, staff and the public in a pleasant, tactful and courteous manner; maintain confidentiality; communicate effectively and accurately orally and in writing; represent the College with diplomacy and in a professional manner in person, over email, and on the phone; produce clear recordings; concentrate for extended periods; operate an amplification system, TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf), four-track tape recorder, closed caption decoder and talking calculator; use a clear speaking voice; understand, determine and work effectively with the most suitable, reasonable Alternative Format for individuals with a wide range of disabilities; organize and prepare reports and conduct research; analyze the Alt Format systems and revise as necessary; to use and potentially train others in using a wide range of office equipment and assistive technology; and work safely. Provide support to employees working to meet accreditation standards through evaluation and assessment of student outcomes.
