Hours: 8 hours/5 days a week typically 8am to 5pm (some flexibility is allowed)

Pay Range - $21.00 to $28.00

Job Description

The Accounting Specialist performs routine accounting activities such as maintenance of the general ledger, assist with bank reconciliations, and preparation of select monthly regulatory reporting. This position compiles financial data to aid senior accountants in preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports and provides quality assurance and support to the accounts payable team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Post journal entries to general ledger ensuring the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy of entries to the general ledger.
  • Proof accounting reports for clerical accuracy.
  • Allocate expenditures to correct accounts according to departmental procedures.
  • Compile data, prepare select reports, and generate summary sheets to be used by management.
  • Assist with month end and year end general ledger closing activities.
  • Provide quality assurance, support, back-up, and training to the AP team as needed.
  • Perform monthly analysis of accounts payable aging and open receiving to aid in identifying potential issues or areas of concern and presenting results to other members of the accounting team.
  • Ensure management is regularly informed of significant problems/issues for which guidance is necessary.
  • Code company credit card activity for entry into the general ledger. Ensure compliance by cardholders to company credit card use policies. Coordinate with and respond to inquiries from financial processing institution.
  • Prepare and file monthly container deposit reports.
  • Ensure select Company licenses and permits remain current by monitoring status, tracking renewal dates and filing periodic reports.
  • Approve new vendor set up.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications: Excellent attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadline requirements. Strong analytical skills required. Proficient in accounting and Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Ability to work efficiently in both a team and independent environment.

Education and/or Experience: Associates degree in accounting and/or minimum of 4 years' experience in accounting or related field. Experience in private industry preferred.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level is usually quiet, as is typical in an office setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a workstation or in meetings; use hands to use keyboard, 10-key and handle paperwork and product. Ongoing communication is critical in this position, requiring the employee to talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
