SummaryThe Bridge Project Engineer is responsible for leading the bridge design and analysis efforts on a variety of engineering projects. The person in this position must be a licensed engineer to practice civil engineering in the state of primary practice or should be licensed in a different state with the ability to get the required license within 6 months of hire. The person in this position will show a strong knowledge of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and be able to quickly learn and apply other design codes as necessary to meet project objectives. The person in this position is also expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism and seek guidance from more experienced team members; as well as provide guidance to less experienced team members as necessary.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:Perform bridge engineering related calculations, analysis, and dependently complete medium to highly complex engineering projects.Coordinate drafting requirements for bridge engineering design projects.Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and teract with clients, contractors, suppliers and teaming partners in a professional manner to develop project solutions.Prepare and route project related correspondence and record dependently complete projects in an accurate, efficient, and organized manner so that they can be easily followed and quickly reviewed by other bridge staffLearn and apply company standards and best practicesWork collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teamsLead the design efforts in the role of engineer-of-record on a variety of project typesWork efficiently to meet deadlines and perform tasks within a given amount of timeMentor and oversee the work of less experienced design team membersEfficiently work with drafters to assemble complete and accurate engineering plansExpertly employ a variety of design codes related to the industryDevelop rudimentary understanding of project budgets and schedulesConsistently exercise discretion and judgment in all work tasks.Follows DOWL's safety program and maintain a safe work environment at the office and in the field.Follows DOWL's Operational Excellence program to maintain a high standard for deliverables and engineering calculations.Other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities May supervise a team of Bridge Engineers (from intern to level 3). Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QualificationsTo be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and/or ExperienceThis position requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, structural) from an accredited university and 6 years' progressive experience or a Master's degree in civil engineering (civil, structural) and 5 years' progressive experience.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsPE Required: This position is for a licensed engineer to practice civil engineering in the state of primary practice or should be licensed in a different state with the ability to get the required license within 6 months of hire.Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical analysis, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities RequiredAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Project software.Strong understanding of structural behavior and mechanics of materials.Accurately complete engineering calculations for all major material types including concrete, steel, timber, and/or masonryAutoCAD and/or MicroStation knowledge and experience is highly desirable.Advanced level proficiency with MathCADAdvanced level proficiency with one or more of the following structural analysis programs: SAP2000, Risa3D, Midas, or GTStrudlAdvanced understanding of seismic design principles and non-linear analysis techniquesExceptional technical and communication skillsStrong organization skillsPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
