Job Summary

In our Agile environment the Principal Program Manager serves as the strategic owner of the scope, schedule, and budget for multiple project teams functioning within a portfolio. The Principal Program Manager drives adherence to high quality project management standards across all assigned project teams and ensures the constant flow of meaningful project and roadmap communication to project team participants, business stakeholders, and management. The Principal Program Manager must mitigate risks across suites and ensure removal of barriers to a successful release. Program Managers oversee Project Managers and are expected to be role models of leadership, transparency, performance and project management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to a Portfolio ensuring the teams' efforts are aligned with triple constraint goals of time, scope and cost
  • Direct the assigned project teams to follow the standard Paycor procedures that are used in the management and deployment of projects
  • Be an Agile advocate and coach for teams
  • Partner with Product Management to define the roadmap for the Portfolio
  • Monitor and guide the assigned project teams through the software development life cycle during each quarterly release, to ensure targeted deliverables are met
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues or conflicts across the assigned project teams to remove any roadblocks
  • Create the resource plans and forecasts for the assigned portfolio ensuring teams are staffed to succeed
  • Ensure that each assigned project team provides consistent status/update information and collaborates with the other suites as necessary
  • Act as a liaison between team members and management to communicate any major issues that need to be resolved
  • Foster increased organizational maturity in project management and serve as a champion of PM processes; ensure best practices are applied and implemented
  • Partner with Project Managers to tell the story behind reported metrics ensuring teams use them for continuous improvement
  • Create strategies to keep the teams aligned with longer term release goals
  • Act as the central point of contact for high level scope discussion, communication and release status for the assigned Portfolio


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of MIS and project management experience, including system development and implementation activities (preferred but not required)
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Strong understanding of key metrics to drive Agile team results
  • Scrum Master certification preferred
  • Deep experience in solving complex problems
  • Aptitude for technical procedures and processes
  • Demonstrated success in managing, working with and through people in establishing goals, and accomplishing objectives and action plans to produce expected results
  • Ability to travel to Frisco, TX on occasion
