Posting Closes Monday, November 15th, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. PST The Eugene Water & Electric Board is currently looking to fill two Security Officer positions. One position will be a full-time permanent position while the other will serve a two-year limited duration assignment as a full-time employee. An EWEB Security Officer will employ security strategies and procedures aligned with service level agreements, policies, standards and operating procedures that promote a secure work environment. Responsibilities include protecting utility infrastructure and resources from threats using digital video management, physical access control systems, proactive patrolling, and answering calls for service. Routine contact with the public will require employing proactive prevention and outreach strategies, utilizing community-oriented service and problem-solving techniques. This is an unarmed position with an overall goal of maintaining excellent working conditions by keeping our facilities safe and problem-free. Our organization: EWEB is Oregon's largest customer-owned utility. We provide water and electricity to the Eugene community, as well as parts of east Springfield and the McKenzie River valley area. Security Officers at EWEB will also: * Employ problem-oriented security strategies, procedures, and research methods, to include data gathering, organizing, and reporting. This includes analyzing threats and envisioning potential or real time impact to utility operations with the ability to develop or implement quick responses or mitigation strategies. * May interact with community members to include disturbed, distraught, difficult, or dangerous individuals. * Provides operational support at major incidents, special events, and outages or other community emergency conditions. Officers may be required to work extra hours during emergency conditions. * Detect, analyze, and alert others of any incidents which may impact employees, property, reliability, or resiliency of the utility. These may range from extreme weather conditions, technical failures, civil unrest, crime, terror, and personnel issues. And have the ability to: * Display original thinking and creativity, meet challenges with resourcefulness, generate suggestions for improving work, and develop innovative approaches to complex problems. * Operate electronic access control systems; digital video management systems; and radios, and other communication devices. * Stay up to date on laws, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. The starting salary for this position is commensurate with knowledge, skills, education, and experience as it relates to the position. Annual salary for this position is $49,179.98 - $59,253.01. Minimum Training and Experience Required: Minimum Experience: Two years of experience as a certified and licensed Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Security Officer or equivalent experience. Experience in law enforcement or military desired. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent education. Desirable education, experience, training and certifications: Three years of experience as a certified and licensed Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Security Officer, ASIS PSP, code enforcement, criminal justice, social services, or related disciplines. Handcuff and OC Spray training or the ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of experience and education may be qualifying. Oregon driver license: Yes. Or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Professional license or registration: Oregon DPSST Unarmed Security Officer or the ability to obtain within 120 days of appointment. Post-offer criminal record check required: Yes. Safety Sensitive Position: Yes Physical activities (with or without accommodation): This position requires moderate to high levels of physical exertion, repetitive exertion and/or hazardous working conditions. This includes physical tasks such as walking patrols over uneven ground and standing or sitting for long periods.
