The Visitor Center & Destination Coordinator (VCDC) provides
exceptional customer service and courteous hospitality to visitors
at the Experience Roseburg Visitor Center, and coordinates the
on-going destination development activities of Roseburg, and assist
in Experience Roseburg destination development initiatives. The
VCDC reports directly to the General Manager and supports
Destination Management Organization (DMO) team which includes
Project Manager, Media Specialist, Graphic Designers, and Contract
Specialists. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Visitor Center
* Provide a remarkable, welcoming experience for every visitor to
the Visitor Center. This includes greeting every guest, asking
appropriate questions to tailor the assistance provided, directing
them to the applicable brochure and information on display,
assisting with travel routes and directions, offering trip
suggestions, planning travel itineraries, and checking on road and
weather conditions.
* Maintain the organized, welcoming environment of the Welcome
Center by re-stocking publications, brochures, merchandise and
performing light cleaning duties as needed. This includes
organizing materials stocked in the storage room.
* Proactively acquire extensive, ongoing knowledge of Roseburg,
Douglas County and Oregon's geography and tourism product offerings
relevant to visitors including accommodations, retail, restaurants,
attractions, and significant events (i.e., partner news/websites,
Travel Southern Oregon news/website, Travel Oregon news/website,
advertiser brochures, familiarization (FAM) tours, researching
information for visitors, etc.) Stay abreast of major events and
conventions to proactively direct visitors to their corresponding
conference headquarter hotels and meeting venues.
* Record hourly/daily visitor traffic counts, capture visitor
demographic information, invite visitors to sign the digital guest
book and share notable visitor feedback and experiences with the
project manager.
* Respond to visitor inquiries and requests for trip planning
assistance and itinerary development received to the Experience
Roseburg email account.
* Ensure that communications with visitors/partners/stakeholders
are timely and effective
* Assist in maintaining current and relevant information on
corporate website properties
Assist in any other duties that may be assigned by the General
Manager and DMO Team from time to time
Destination Development
* Coordinate implementation of destination development programs and
effective management in the region
* Work to align tourism destination development activities with the
Roseburg area
* Assist in providing content ideas, feedback for the monthly
customer eNewsletter.
Industry Engagement
* Provide content ideas, feedback for the monthly partner
(industry) ENewsletter
* Strive for consistent communication with industry stakeholders
while answering stakeholder questions and concerns regarding
Experience Roseburg's activities and its projects
Reporting
* Produce a monthly report of meetings with stakeholders
* Prepare frequent updates to the DMO team on activities and
results
* Track development activities and prepare monthly destination
development reports for stakeholders and appropriate committees
* Provide current data related to stakeholders for the maintenance
of the contacts database
Requirements
* 3 years' experience working in hospitality/tourism,
post-secondary education with specialties in Tourism Marketing
and/or Destination Development preferred.
* High degree of sensitivity in dealing with the Public, EDC
Commission, City Administration and Stakeholders.
* Familiarity with Oregon's tourism assets including attractions,
activities, destinations, culinary offerings, history, and events.
Strong knowledge of tourism assets in the local/regional area.
* Abel to work independently on multiple projects, show initiative
and meet deadlines.
* Ability to accept and implement feedback in order to achieve
individual and team performance goals.
* Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
with the ability to assimilate new technologies and ideas.
* Excellent verbal and written communication. Proficiency in any
additional languages is a plus.
* Ability to work a flexibility schedule and travel as needed.
* Current and valid driver's license and must be able to qualify
for UIDC's drivers program.
