The part you'll play and preparation for your role.The Florence Public Works Department is dedicated to professionally maintaining and improving the current infrastructure of water, sewer, storm, street, airport and park services, to the highest possible standards for our community. The City is looking for a full-time GIS Technician, which has a hiring pay range of $18.27-20.68/hr. The maximum pay for this position is $27.89/hr. The determination of the position and pay will depend upon the applicant's qualifications. This a 40 hour per week position that comes with employer paid medical premiums, health savings account, and is part of the Public Employee Retirement System (see the benefits tab for more information). This position has an established career track within the City that will provide the individuals with long-term purpose within the organization. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The City of Florence's Public Works Department is seeking a full-time (Monday-Friday; 8am-5pm) GIS Technician who will be an exceptional addition to our team. The GIS Technician is an intermediate contributor that performs all or most of the standard work within the function. This position performs the necessary functions to support the City's Public Works and other departments using GIS products and information, as well as other aspects of geo-spatial technology related to GIS. This position is responsible for maintaining and building a GIS database of the City's infrastructure, assets, and other information useful to the City's operations. Additionally, this position acts as a point of contact for day-to-day operations of the GIS program and assists and educates others within the organization in the use and interpretation of the GIS products.The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and sets a high-quality bar. This person likes to solve problems and is willing to learn how to utilize GIS in a public agency environment. Most importantly, you like being part of a team and growing in your professional career alongside others within the City. What you will doMaintain and update the City's GIS data on infrastructure, streets, and utility systems.Update data based upon as-built drawings and working with field crews.Act as records custodian for as-built drawings, maps, and other related records.Produce, develop, and maintain a variety of reports, maps, and drawings.Act as point of contact for day-to-day operations of the GIS program with internal and external customers.Research and review land use transactions, work with legal descriptions, create maps, etc.Be accurate and able to take specific direction wellBe knowledgeable and able to answer questions of both internal and external customersProvide excellent customer service at all timesAdhere to the City's Values, Mission Statement, and Core Competencies and represent the City to the communityclick here for a full job description.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
What to bring with youDegree or certificate in geographic information systems or a closely related field1+ year of experience and training in full range of GIS applicationsProfessional experience (outside of academia) experience using ArcGIS software suite.Knowledge of cartography, use of GIS in a professional setting, and knowledge of GIS softwareKnowledge of customer service techniquesSkills in communication, time management, and in using technologyAbility to craft professional documents, perform detail-oriented assignments in a timely manner, build relationships and work well with othersNice-to-havesFamiliarity with or experience processing or writing grants or grant applications.Knowledge of or experience in municipal infrastructure.Bachelor's degree from accredited university in geographic information systems, geography, or related field.Familiarity with or experience with AutoCad software.
